CHAPTER ELEVEN

Shanea

The next morning, I guzzled down a few shots and put on my Versace skirt suit. I marched into the firm, pushed past the stuck-up secretary and the security guard, and crashed the monthly board meeting before anyone could warn Lon.

He smiled, thinking I was coming to beg him, until I staggered in and slurred, “You dirty son-of-a-bitch. Why the hell you call the dogs on me? You know I’m a good mother.”

Lon was cool as usual, and then said, “Excuse me, gentleman. My wife has been sick lately.”

He grabbed my arm and dragged me into the adjacent sitting room.

“Lon, if you don’t cut this out, I’m taking my daughters and we’re gonna hop the first thing smokin’. You don’t even want me. You can have any woman you want. I just want to live peacefully without you. I’m filing for divorce…”

“Listen here, you drunk bitch. You don’t want to mess with me. I can make your life hell just like I did all your friends. Now I suggest you grab a few cups of coffee, sober up, and get your ass back home. I paid off your little boyfriend so he won’t be in our way anymore. One simple phone call to the social worker telling her it was a misunderstanding and you’re good, but if you don’t come back to me I’ll knock the bottom out your world. Your pathetic little drug habit is small compared to what we have. I’m smart enough to know better than to throw it all away. I refuse to lose custody of our daughters and have them living with you and one of your boyfriends surviving on child support checks. Oh and just in case you get any bright ideas about crossing me, I’ll make sure your little secret…”

“Okay.”

Even before I said it, my eyes told him I wouldn’t put up a fight or protest further. He won. I watched in disbelief as he left a voicemail for the social worker at CPS. He called the Oasis to give the owner the okay to bring Delisha back to work, the Center to tell the director to let Tressa go on her vacation with an extra week off with pay, and lastly his associate to tell her to call Bryan and let him know she’d called the wrong number and didn’t mean to call him about Lousa.

“I’ll fix the IRS problem later.” He promised.

“Then I guess it’s all settled. I’m coming home,” I spat.

“Okay baby, welcome back. I’ll have my driver take you to get your things,” He said as if we were talking about the weather, hugged me, and went back into his meeting.

I’m mad as hell. I don’t want to give up my new life to go back to his blackmailing ass. I don’t want to lose any more weight or hair. I don’t want to think about all his hoes. How would I live now?

First thing I did was cop me some Tylenol 3s. I needed help for the pain.
